Jujutsu Kaisen Is Stealing the Spotlight From Its Protagonist After Working so Hard to Build It

Yuta Okkotsu is back in the fight for the Jujutsu Kaisen's final fight even in a "monstrous" form after taking control of the body of his coach, Gojo. This means the fictional protagonist of the show, Yuji Itadori is being pushed away from the action at the same time he was showing his progress and ability to go toe-to-toe against Sukuna.

If you watch any other Shonen Juke series, it's obvious who the protagonist will be, but this isn't like Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen. It is due to its creator Gege Akutami who decided not to depict Yuji as the usual Shonen main character of the genre. There is nothing wrong with the way Yuji is presented, this is a fact that has placed Yuji in the background many times as other characters like Gojo or Megumi were in the spotlight. But, after Gojo's demise as well as Megumi being controlled of Sukuna, Yuji finally got the chance to be a primary protagonist.

It was particularly true after the shocking revelation of how Yuji has the same soul as Sukuna. The revelation of Yuji driving Sukuna into the brink of death, Jujutsu Kaisen had finally begun to clarify the reason Yuji was picked to be the protagonist. But, recent events could force Yuji back to the background.

Yuta's Return Is Pushing Yuji to the Sidelines Once More

In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 261 " Inhuman Makyo Shinjuku Showdown, Part 33", Gojo's exciting and unexpected return proved to be Yuta making use of Kenjaku's cursed techniques to make himself a master's body. It became clear that Sukuna was at the edge of losing with Yuji throwing a hail at Black Flash on the King of the Curses. Sukuna had the option of expanding his territory to be able to come out of the situation, which is when Yuta showed up to rescue the day. The story completely drove the protagonist, Yuji Itadori off the scene with no motive.

His return to Yuta's world with Yuta's return in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter #260 could be viewed as a waste of time, particularly considering that the battle that was raging between Yuji as well as Sukuna seemed to be nearing the climax. Yuji's character as the primary character had begun to gain significance, especially due to the fact that he may be the descendant of Sukuna. As a person with a soul similar to Sukuna's Yuji emerged as a better or more effective version of Sukuna, the Sukuna King. Curses and embodies his side as Sukuna who was lost after he devoured his twin while in the womb. But, the sudden return of Yuta interrupts this storyline and poses questions regarding Yuji's position as the principal persona.

Gege Akutami Is Using Sorcerers as Fodder for Sukuna

Since Gojo was murdered by Sukuna and the other sorcerers, one each time has joined the battle, yet their presence didn't make any impact. The characters such as Hiromi Higuruma, Aoi Todo and Choso are the only ones to make an effort in the battlefield to aid Yuji as well as providing him with the attention merited. Higuruma as well as Choso were the ones to make the sacrifices to help Yuji being able to gain an advantage against Sukuna. While Todo fulfills his duty to assist Yuji in fighting his opponents just as he has done prior to their fight against the evil spirits Mahito as well as Hanami.

The whole thing seemed to be building into a roiling attempt to take on Sukuna by handing Yuji with the task of the seemingly impossible mission. But, Yuta then comes back to take the spotlight away from Yuji as Gojo and Megumi previously did previously. It's more depressing and a bit more frustrating than it has ever been and especially so because Jujutsu Kaisen was finally working really hard to create Yuji into a character.
